Honestly, do deadlines bother anyone? For the 2nd time in a matter of days, a Baltimore franchise makes a crucial signing at the last minute. Last Friday, it was Kevin Gausman inking his rookie deal. Today, it was Ray Rice committing to the Ravens for the next 5 years, with a $40 million deal.

According to Adam Schefter at ESPN, sources are saying that Rice will be paid “$17 million in the first year and $25 million in the first two years.”

So I am not sure how much of that is tied up in signing bonuses and guaranteed money, but at first glance, that seems like a lot of cap money that the Ravens don’t have.

Then again, playing with happy, a Ray Rice is  like getting lucky at www.partybingo.com. The Ravens need him on offense, and if he isn’t playing or playing well, then scoring could come to a complete halt.

I’m still fluxuating on whether Ozzie’s decision will help or cripple the team, but I really need to see the details before I can make any assumptions. In the meantime, let’s celebrate that football season is just around the corner.
