Crap…Ol’ Bruz wanted to dislike the young fella who won the O’s Public Address Announcer position…But the BSR Podcast just made that more difficult…Congratulations and Best of Luck to Ryan Wagner from one of the “Top 25”!
Note: As far as the Edgewood High School angle, I dare say Dudley Bradley might still have that Award at the moment. Dudley was a 1st Round NBA Draft Pick after a his college days spent at Chapel Hill. He spent nine years in The Association. 🙂
Thanks for the comment Ol’Bruz. After we had the conversation, I remembered Dudley Bradley and should have known that after playing four years of basketball at Edgewood High School, haha. So, we’ll put Dudley (1. and Ryan (1A. Thanks for listening!
Matt — Your welcome and thanks for the adjustment…True story coming up (I know, aren’t they all?)…Dudley was playing for “WBAL” when they took on the Essex Recreation Council “Coaches and Staff” at Eastern Technical High School sometime around 1990…Only time Ol’ Bruz was on the court / field with a former Pro Athlete…Not that I developed a Man Crush or anything, but watching that dude move around the court was just amazing…His body control was completely unlike anybody else out there…
Were you an Eastern Tech grad?
When I played at Edgewood, I had the privilege and now the story to tell… our rival was/is Aberdeen (not the rivalry now that it used to be) and I played against both Erin Henderson and Gary Neal. Guarded Gary Neal… well if you want to call it guarding haha.
Well, it was Vocational Technical when I wore a younger man’s clothes…Back before Carmello Anthony went their for a year…Think we won maybe 5 games in my two years on the Varsity…DID get to see David Griggs, a catcher for Sparrows Point High hit a home run that seemingly traveled from North Point Blvd all the way back to Mace Avenue…Turns out Griggs, drafted by the Orioles, would not hit a home run in 239 Plate Appearances in 4 Professional Seasons…
