You wanna play for the Orioles? You better know the history of the Orioles. Buck Showalter isn’t messing around.
Monday in Sarasota, Hall of Famer Frank Robinson spoke to the players in the Orioles clubhouse. 19-year-old outfielder Josh Hart ran into Robinson prior to his pep talk and unfortunately didn’t know who he was.
“He was coming down the hall and I was walking Frank out of the locker room,” Showalter asked. “I go, ‘Hold on a second, Frank. Josh, do you know who this is?'”
Showalter already knew the answer.
“He says, ‘No,’ and I said, ‘OK, by this time tomorrow I want a page on Frank Robinson,'” Showalter said. “I said, ‘You go home, you research it and you come back tomorrow and have it on my desk. Frank got a kick out of that.
“It’s not their fault, it’s not their fault.”
Is Hart going to do it?
“You bet your ass,” Showalter replied. “It better be there tomorrow. He knows.”
I would love to read that paper.
If you’re a baseball player, how do you not know who Frank Robinson is? I’ll buy the excuse that you don’t recognize his face, but not even name recognition? Seriously? If he had been introduced to say, Randy Milligan or Storm Davis, ok, no harm no foul….but Frank Robinson? C’mon kid….get your head out the the Xbox
