If you can use run differential to define the quality of a team, why can’t you use home runs per at-bat to define a player?
Did you know that Chris Davis is averaging a home run per 17.6 at-bats this season? Probably not. I didn’t before Brett Hollander tweeted it.
That’s more homers per at-bat than Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, Mark Teixeira, Prince Fielder and Robinson Cano. Josh Hamilton leads the American League in homers per at-bat with 12.3.
Crazy.
Guys like Keith Law only use stats when it helps to justify their opinions. You’d never hear Mr. Law or “Stat Boy” quote these stats on Davis who the Orioles stole from the “Great Nolan Ryan” along with Strop and “Big Game” for Mike Gonzalez (no longer with the Rangers) and Koji.
