Earlier today, Dino Gregory, who is well-known to be a great friend of Cliff Tucker’s, tweeted that Tucker was “officially a UTEP Miner.” About a half hour later, Tucker, the former Terps basketball player, confirmed it on his personal Facebook account
Here is what Tucker wrote in his post [everything sic]-
Thank GOD and Coach Price for another opportunity. Its official ima be a UTEP MINER!!!!!!TIME TO WORK!!!
If you’ve been following Tucker since his final season in a Maryland basketball uniform ended, the former forward for Gary Williams was trying to land a spot on the Terps’ football squad this fall. After a scholarship was not available, Tucker went looking for another opportunity and it looks like he found one with the Miners.
Tucker averaged 6.0 points per game in his 131-game basketball career at College Park, averaging 9.6 PPG his senior season. His career highlight in the red and gold was this shot, which defeated Georgia Tech in February 2010:
The Maryland Football team should do great this year at the wide out,Because if they could not find a ship, For a 6ft6 fast atheltic player with long arms, That only tells me that they must be loaded at the wide out.
Being that he played high school football in a place that is known for football, it is not to far fetch to say that he at least knows his way around a football field, And to be 6ft6 with long arms(taller than T.O taller then Ocho Cinco) And he can jump, and watching his football highlights he has hands.
I assume he would put pressure on a guy who is 6’4 or shorter guarding him. The terps must be good at the wide out, If they could afford to pass that up. cannot wait to see them.
I congradulate Clif on Graduating from the University of Maryland ,and now he will be working on his Masters Degree at UTEP, That is the way I think atheletics should go, kid comes to school contributes to the team, after 4 years he has matured as person, and has a college degree. Everyone one wins.
Go Terps
and Go Tucker
Dino Sr
Dino Sr,
Thanks for your comment, and thank your son for four great years of basketball at UMD!!!
As for Cliff, I agree. It’s a bit odd that there wasn’t a spot available for him, but UTEP should be a good place for him. Hopefully Cliff will get a lot of time with the Miners, and like you said, his athleticism and football background could help him have a big season in El Paso. And of course, the degree is very important, and it’s great to see a guy like Cliff Tucker come out of the Terps’ basketball program.

Thank you Edgar,
Being riased in Philly and finishing my last year at high school in Long Beach Ca then going on to Long Beach State, I never really knew a lot about UM,(i was a UCLA fan) other than one of my Philly summer time teamate Reggie Jackson played for them alongside AL King and Buck Williams
So after 4 years of following my son, I come to have great respect for the University of Maryland at College Park, from how they let players come back and help them to finish there degree, (unlike Long Beach State) and how they gave the players the tools they needed to graduate, and how they went first class from the coach to the way they traveled,
I say that to say this. I think they messed up big on that Cliff Tucker thing. I sure hope it does not come back to haunt them, I hope that new coach and the team goes undefeated and end up the number 1 team in the country. I really do. I love the terp nation
I hope there wide outs do great, But i think they passed up on a great insurance plan with Cliff Tucker 6ft6 (who was right there on campus) As for my son I think what he said on his twitter page at the end of the year say’s it all in the way he approached the game.
” I have no regrets and I gave my all from day one”
Perfectly said. Let’s hope Cliff has a big year and the Terps have a great year. We know both of them deserve the success.
Thanks a lot for your comments. I know I’ll be following Cliff’s success at UTEP and the Terps’ football team this Fall, so be sure to check back here for more coverage! Additionally, if you ever have the “inside scoop” on any story or anything of that sort, don’t hesitate to send me an email (ewalker795@gmail.com).
Thanks again.

i got u, I think you are gonna see Cliff in the NFL , I know that is a big jump.By the NFL like the NBA picks players off what they can be not what they are. And you cannot teach 6ft6,
It would be nice to UTEP in a bowl game vs the Terps. And i just cannot see any terp fans booing Cliff Tucker.
And you know what, If he missed that three pointer 2 years ago, we don’t tie for the ACC Championship Ship, with that being the case then perhaps Grevious is not the ACC player of the Year, And perhaps GW is not ACC coach of the year.
And also whatever coach the was (who called time out before GV hit the long shot ,it was not Coach Williams) they would have been fired that night, That Tucker buzzer beater had a lot riding on it. so with that being said I cannot see any treps fan booing Tucker.
If the treps did not have a scholarship why did they let him come out. He could have got hurt. for nothing! Unless they had one when he was working out with them, then gave it to somebody else
