Former New York Jets wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery visited the Pittsburgh Steelers complex on Sunday and reportedly took a physical according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Cotchery could sign with the Steelers as early as today.
Cotchery getting physical tonite, will meet again in morning. Told steelers he has other visits.
For Ravens fans, this is another offseason defeat in what seems to be a period in which Baltimore lost a lot and gained little. Cotchery’s name came up as the back up to the Ravens back up plan for a wide receiver after they failed to sign Malcom Floyd and let Derrick Mason sign with the Jets.
Tony Lombardi of Ravens24x7.com writes that the “Ravens have no interest [in Cotchery], that’s just more agent spin.” Jamison Hensley of The Sun writes that the Ravens are not “aggressively pursuing [Cotchery].”
The whole wide receiver situation makes it appear that Baltimore is confident in their young rookies Torrey Smith and Tandon Doss with feature receiver Anquan Boldin. Typically, it takes a couple years for wide receivers to develop so I suppose we’ll see if this gamble pays off.
I just don’t want to hear the “lack of weapons” excuse for this offense again in 2011.
