Everyone seems to agree that the Ravens offensive game plan against the Seahawks sucked. Throw 52 times, run five. Lose 22-17 to one of the worst teams in the league. That seemed to be the plan.
So far this week tight end Ed Dickson, cornerback Lardarius Webb and future Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis all said that Ray Rice needs to get the ball more. It’s as simple as that. On Wednesday, Ray Rice finally spoke up and agreed with his teammates. “I’m never going to be a guy who talks about touches, but obviously, we know going into a game that five carries is not going to cut it,” Rice said according to Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times.
Unfortunately, the Ravens leader on offense, Joe Flacco, doesn’t agree. Flacco told reporters that Baltimore’s passing attack against Seattle gave them the best chance of winning. “If you have a three-and-out, at least you didn’t eat up eight minutes of the clock and not get any points,” Flacco said according to CBSSports.com.
While Joe is right about the clock, he failed to mentioned that the Ravens never gave Rice enough attempts to even get any momentum. They dug themselves in a hole late and were forced to pass. Flacco later acknowledged that Rice is a playmaker for the Ravens on offense. “I think you need to do what’s going to give you success. Having said that, getting Ray (Rice) the ball any way you can is a good thing.”
This quote is beyond stupid: ”If you have a three-and-out, at least you didn’t eat up eight minutes of the clock and not get any points.”
1) I’m not going to do the math but I’d bet that the % of drive lasting 8 minutes and not ending in points are rare (like < 20%).
2) Field position still has some importance, its certainly no where near as important as touchdowns but its not worthless as Joe seems to imply.
3) The Ravens pass offense isn't good enough to have this kind of philosophy. Off hand, Green Bay, New England and New Orleans are the only teams who are sufficiently competent passing to ignore completely ignore the run in close games.
There used to be a faction between this team’s offense and defense, now it seems to be smack in the middle of the offense. The Bengals always play the Ravens tight and with 8-1 San Fran on deck after that, Black Friday could take on a new meaning in Baltimore- as in mourning.
Has anyone else noted the fracture that is happening with this team? Everyone is saying that the offense is messed up and such, Lewis, Rice, Suggs, Reed, Dickson, etc… However the 3 Amigos, Harbaugh, Cameron and Flacco, the 3 most blameful guys say there isn’t an issue.
I see what MGW and I have been saying for years. These players DO NOT like Harbaugh and Flacco. This has been brewing for weeks and where has Harbaugh been to stem the tide?
When Billick was here this team had a distinct flare. The defense was front and center. But at no time was it a fractured team like it is now. That’s cause Billick wouldn’t allow it.
Harbaugh likes “Yes” men which is why Mason, McGahee, Heap and Stover were history. If that clown Harbaugh stays I see Dickson, Rice, and some others will be history. Reed & Lewis aren’t going anywhere because they ARE the Baltimore Ravens.
Agree,,,,,,,Harbaugh is not capable of leading any team to the super bowl , all Bisciotti did was hire a pretender who looked like a head coach,,,,,,,,,,and why did he grant a three year extension last year , didn’t he learn his lesson with Billick,,,,,,,,,,,,speaking of Billick , he would take this team to the super bowl , Harbs just doesn’t have it,,,,,,,,,,,why Bisciotti chose a rookie head coach for a team that was super bowl ready I will never know , but it was a big mistake…………..
