Despite being hospitalized just several days prior to his start on Sunday, Orioles ace Jeremy Guthrie gave Buck Showalter and the Birds six solid innings, surrendering one run. After his Opening Day performance in Tampa Bay, this was nothing for Guthrie who fanned six in his three hit, eight inning shutout of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Guthrie tweeted to fans following Sunday’s start that he felt like he had been in the hospital four days ago while he was on the mound. “But good defense and [Matt] Wiety [Wieters] helped guide me through 6 IP,” he wrote.
Despite feeling ill, Guthrie has pitched to a 0.64 ERA in two starts this season, but earned the loss on Sunday as the Orioles fell to 6-3.
