Hines Ward: “Usually, I’m Smiling When I’m Running, But That Day I Was Actually Screaming”

Ravens fans have been trying to wipe the grin off of Hines Ward’s face for years.  Problem solved.

The now retired Steelers wide receiver plays a role in the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, which debuts this weekend.  If you’ve seen the trailer, you’ve probably seen Ward running with the football while the field behind him collapses.  I’ve got to admit, even as a Ravens fan it’s a pretty cool scene.

“I’ve run scared before, but I really ran scared that day,” Ward Gene Collier of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “They told me, ‘Don’t look back.’ I felt the explosion when I was running. I had to wear earplugs. Usually, I’m smiling when I’m running, but that day I was actually screaming.”

Steelers co-owner Thomas Tull helped to co-produce the film and managed to work in Ben Roethlisberger, Troy Polamalu, Mike Wallace and former coach Bill Cowher into the movie as well.
