For a second straight season, Towson Tigers senior forward Jerrelle Benimon has been chosen as the CAA Player of the Year. The results were announced Thursday night, on the eve of the conference’s tournament at the Baltimore Arena that yours truly will be covering for BSR.
Benimon becomes the eighth player in the conference history to go back to back as player of the year in the CAA. He led the country in rebounding (11.7) and has a nation-best 20 double-doubles in just 31 games. The Georgetown-transfer also “chipped” in on the scoring sheet with 18.9 PPG and even had time to dish out 3.7 assists a game as well.
Benimon received 30 out of a possible 36 votes for Player of the Year.
The #2 seeded Tigers take on the #7 seeded James Madison Dukes this Saturday at 6pm (NBCSports TV) at the Baltimore Arena with the winner advancing to the semi-finals on Sunday at 5 p.m.
