Baltimore Orioles stud closer Jim Johnson picked the wrong night to struggle. The typically light-out O’s closer who racked up a franchise-high 51 saves during the regular season was charged with 4 earned runs and the loss in game one of the ALDS against the Yankees.
Despite his poor outing, the Orioles still have confidence in JJ during tight games.
“It’s not deflating,” Matt Wieters told MASNSports.com’s Steve Melewski after the game. “Jim’s been great for us all year and everyone in this clubhouse wants to give him the ball again tomorrow.”
Not surprising. He’s earned that right.
Johnson hadn’t given up an earned run in his previous 11 appearances. Coincidentally enough, the last team to score on him happened to the be the Yankees.
