Orioles left fielder Luke Scott was a guest on MLB Network Radio’s First Pitch on Friday morning where he told host Casey Stern that Buck Showalter was “making a statement” with his recent remarks about Theo Epstein and Derek Jeter.
In an interview for the April edition of Men’s Journal, Showalter said that he would like to see how start Epstein is with Tampa Bay’s payroll and said that he yelled at Derek Jeter from the dugout at Yankee Stadium for backing away from pitches slightly inside.
“That’s right up my alley,” Scott said in the interview. Stern tweeted that payback is coming for the Orioles, but the reaction around Baltimore seems to be positive.
Showalter responded to his comments clarifying his respect for the Red Sox organization and Derek Jeter in an interview yesterday at Spring Training.
It’s all bluster. The game’s played on the field.
It’s all bluster and he’s now basically backed off the comments.
And let’s not forget his comments about not caring about the Yankees or Red Sox when asked about them a few months ago.
Buck got loose lips and he knows it.
I like him but this notion that what he said was some great motivating thing is ridiculous.
