Remember when people were worried about Manny Machado making the transition to third base? That was funny.

The Orioles 20 year old infielder made a veteran defensive play on Wednesday night that helped set up Nate McLouth’s walkoff single in the bottom of the ninth inning. Machado fooled Rich Thompson on a pump fake throw to first that forced the Rays pinch runner off the bag at third.

Then the next inning Machado scored the game winning run. GIF after the bump.

  1. “Stat Boy” was one of those guys. Yet another of his many “predictions” as to how this young man would struggle at 3rd.

Like his dumb golf analogy, which by the way he plays, he should have known that the shortstop is generally the most gifted athlete on the field and a move to third would not be out of the realm – see Cal Ripken.

I wonder if he knows that Miguel Cabrera played zero games in LF before being called up to the Marlins to play…LF.

I wonder if he knows SS Justin Upton played exactly 9 games in the minors in CF befor being called up to play…CF.

  2. I watched the last 15 minutes of that game last night like 50 times! Best darn Orioles play i’ve seen this season. The kid has good baseball awareness. Don’t forget to mention Hardy too. If he wasn’t backing up Machado and covering the bag, that play would’ve never happened.
