Monday evening, former Maryland recruit Sterling Gibbs announced on twitter that he has chosen to go to the University of Texas. “University of Texas Longhorns.. I’m ready baby!!,” he posted.
Gibbs requested a release from his letter of intent following Gary Williams retirement, but told Maryland that he would still consider the Terps.
The Testudo Times doesn’t think losing Gibbs is nearly as big of a deal as Martin Breunig or Nick Faust, who’s futures still remain up in the air.
Fortunately for Maryland, this isn’t a killer blow. For one, he was generally the lowest-ranked of Maryland’s three commitments, which set off a red flag given his exposure. He would’ve helped out a bit with point guard depth in any foul trouble situations, but he won’t be missed much immediately with two starter-level PGs on the team. And with Seth Allen already on-board for 2012, the point guard spot is pretty well locked-down.
