I’m not sure how retirement is treating Matt Birk, but if he’s looking for work I think he could easily find it as a Twitter play-by-play commentator with one of the sports networks. I don’t know if that’s actually a job — probably not.
Either way, Birk’s tweets were the best thing about watching Thursday night’s horribly depressing Broncos beating of the Ravens. There was humor mixed with actual insight. It was a million times better than listening to the game.
While Al Michaels and the reporters on NFL.com were bashing the Orioles for not moving their game for the Ravens home opener, Birk was stealing the show.
Here were a few of my favorite highlights.
If this delay lasts any longer they might have to air an interview with me.

If I was Peyton Manning's offensive coordinator I would be an awesome coach. #genius #KickOff2013

Can you believe in the 1998 draft I was only 172 picks behind Manning? #KickOff2013

Unfortunately, Birk was also misinformed about the Orioles-Ravens schedule conflict.
The city of Denver would like to thank MLB for not moving the Orioles game tonight. Wonder how many people will be tuned into that? #SNF
