Matt Wieters - Baltimore Orioles catcher

There’s light at the end of a long tunnel for Matt Wieters. The Orioles catcher made a rehab start in Double-A Bowie last night and went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and threw out a runner in the top of the eighth.

MASNSports.com’s Steve Melewski was on location for Wieters’ 2015 debut:

Wieters said the plan calls for him to work out in Baltimore tomorrow and not play here. He’ll return to catch for Bowie on Thursday and Saturday, and he could then join another affiliate for a home game or two after Bowie’s homestand ends Sunday.

One scenario would see him play Monday at Single-A Frederick and Wednesday at Triple-A Norfolk, but nothing is 100 percent set just yet.

I have to think that Wieters won’t see the type of workload he’s had over the past three seasons and with Caleb Joseph playing as well as he is, perhaps we’ll see Matt at first base or in a DH role. Since Chris Davis is scuffling, Steve Pearce could move over to first which would allow Wieters to be the designated hitter.

But I’m getting a bit ahead of myself here.
