Good news for Buck Showalter and the Baltimore Orioles. MLB.com beat writer Brittany Ghiroli is reporting that starting pitcher Brian Matusz could return to the team as soon as next week.
Matusz suffered a strained left intercostal muscle that landed him on the disabled list on Opening Day. On Tuesday, he threw from 60 feet at Baltimore’s extended Spring Training in Sarasota without pain.
“As soon as he’s able to get on a mound he may come back to us,” Showalter said in Ghiroli’s article.
Of course Matusz will have to rehab the injury, which Showalter says could begin as early as the end of the week.
