After a stellar 2-1 overtime win at the Verizon Center against the Islanders, the Capitals reacted to their performance in their post game interviews.
Goaltender Michael Neuvirth said, “It’s a good win for our fans.” Neuvirth saved 28 of the Islanders 29 shots. “After Brooksie scored I just knew, we [were] going to win this game no matter what.”
“I think we started the game pretty well. We had way too many chances to score,” Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin said. Of course, in the end the Great Eight took advantage of one last chance when he scored the game winning goal.
Newly acquired defenseman Dennis Wideman was on the ice for both of the Caps goals and took three shots himself. “We were all over them [early],” Wideman said. “And then I think we kind of backed off a little bit, we tried to get a little cuter instead of dumping it in behind them.”
