Nick Markakis - Orioles right fielderWednesday was a long day for Orioles right fielder Nick Markakis. He and his wife, Christina, had been at the hospital since 4 AM awaiting the arrival of their baby boy.

“I can tell how tired Nicky was because he texted 7 pounds and 16 ounces,” Buck Showalter told MASNSports.com’s Roch Kubatko. “That is 8 pounds, right? That’s a big boy.”

That is indeed eight pounds.

Markakis waited for his sister-in-law to arrive at the hospital before heading to the ballpark. Michael Morse started in his spot in right field and went 0-for-3. Morse is now 3-for-20 (.150) with no extra base-hits, no walks and five strikeouts with the Orioles. Markakis pinch hit in the bottom of the ninth, he grounded out to first for the second out of the inning.

He’s hit just .271/.323/.357 this season, but is hitting .300/.286/.350 with a double and 2 RBI over his last seven games.
