The Orioles are the only team who hasn’t announced their Opening Day starter, but they did unveil details about the festivities and celebrations on their April 6 home opener.
To honor the 20th Anniversary of Oriole Park At Camden Yards, 1992 Opening Day starter Rick Sutcliffe will throw the ceremonial first pitch to Chris Hoiles. Sutcliffe threw a five hit complete game shutout against the Indians in Camden Yards’ world premiere and he did so with the “Tractor Mechanic” behind the plate.
The team also announced that Rawlings will present Nick Markakis and Matt Wieters with their 2011 Gold Gloves and gave the release dates on the Orioles Legends Sculptures unveiling.
- Frank Robinson – April 28
- Brooks Robinson – May 12
- Earl Weaver – June 30
- Jim Palmer – July 14
- Eddie Murray – August 11
- Cal Ripken, Jr. – September 6
Still waiting on that Opening Day starter though.
Hold your horses Wilt. As you know, fine wine takes time. Whoever starts will pitch a 3 hit shoutout. You heard it here first, before I had anything to drink today. BTW, my therapist told me this blog is good for my mental state concerning the Orioles. I believe I love the Orioles more than love my current husband. Keep up the good work.
