As the Orioles prepare to defend The MASN Cup from the Nationals, it’s time once again to ponder whether these four games have created a local rivalry between the two clubs.
Sure, they don’t play in the same division — or even the same league — but is there a feeling of something on the line when these two teams face each other?
Interestingly, the Nats and O’s have followed similar timelines the past two seasons. Here’s what Washington has down between 2012-2014:
- 2012: 98-64, first place in NL East, lost to the Cardinals 3-2 in the NLDS.
- 2013: 86-76, missed the postseason.
And for the Birds:
- 2012: 93-69, AL Wild Card, lost to the Yankees 3-2 in the ALDS.
- 2013: 85-77, missed the postseason.
Is this thing a rivalry?
