Jonathan Schoop leads The Netherlands to victoryBehold the long awaited arrival of Jonathan Schoop. The Baltimore Orioles called up the 21 year old on Tuesday afternoon along with Henry Urrutia and Josh Stinson.

MASNSports.com’s Roch Kubatko reports that Schoop with wear number 6.

Schoop hit .256/.301/.396 with 9 homers and 34 RBI in 70 games in the International League with the Triple-A Norfolk Tides this season. He was sidelined with a back injury from May 12 to July 24.

Many Orioles fans got their first look at Schoop in this year’s World Baseball Classic. He batted 214/.313/.464 with two home runs in eight games for Team Netherlands.

Baseball America views the second baseman/shortstop as the Orioles third ranked prospect behind Dylan Bundy and Kevin Gausman.

Schoop isn’t in tonight’s lineup and with the Orioles being two games out of the Wild Card, it will be interesting to see how much playing time Buck Showalter will give him the rest of the way. I’d imagine we’ll mostly see him in pinch running situations or as a late defensive replacement.

I’ve heard different reports on Schoop’s defensive abilities. I’ll be most interested to see how he fares in the field.

Brian Roberts is hitting leadoff for the O’s on Tuesday night against the Indians. It’s the fifth game in which Showalter has used Roberts atop the order this season. He’s hit just .063/.167/.125 in 18 plate appearances in that spot this season.
