Do you think the Orioles are eager to get the 2013 season rolling? According to MLB.com’s Brittany Ghiroli, Yamaico Navarro is the only position player that hasn’t reported to spring training.
They aren’t due to join pitchers and catchers until the end of the week.
Nick Markakis, who sat out during the postseason with a broken hand, has been in Sarasota since early January. Guys like Nolan Reimold, Brian Roberts and Manny Machado have been eager to log some early hours in the batting cage.
After getting a taste of playoff baseball in 2012, the Birds are hopeful to return for an even deeper run this fall. Like last season, they have their doubters, but this team feeds off the “us against the world” storyline.
It’s a new attitude folks.
Most around here have forgotten how the Orioles did things when they were winners. Drafting and trading for talent, holding onto your young talent, supplementing with fringe talent. Roenicke/Lowenstein in left. An infield of Rich Dauer, Kiko Garcia, Todd Cruz…scrappy light hitting catcher in Dempsey. Aside from two seasons, the Orioles have never won with big free agents.
Looking forward to a fun filled season, as it appears the boys down south are as well.
