As the countdown the the trade deadline continues, FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal reports that the Orioles “want to do something big” — even after acquiring Scott Feldman and Francisco Rodriguez. Rosenthal says that the O’s are in on White Sox starter Jake Peavy, Twins first baseman Justin Morneau and Phillies third baseman Michael Young.
Of course, to acquire any of the above targets the Birds would have to part with a significant prospect. Rosenthal is hearing that the O’s would be willing to do so for the right player.
In any case, the Orioles’ aggression is notable. Sources say the team is even willing to move one of its top prospects, right-hander Dylan Bundy, for the right return.
Bundy, 20, underwent Tommy John surgery last month, but the success rate of pitchers recovering from the operation is quite good. The Chicago Cubs acquired right-hander Arodys Vizcaino from the Atlanta Braves last season just four months after he had the surgery. Vizcaino, 22, was the centerpiece of the package that the Cubs acquired for left-hander Paul Maholm and outfielder Reed Johnson.
What follows is speculation:
The Orioles wouldn’t trade Bundy straight-up for say, a year-plus of Peavy, but they might include him as part of a larger package in which they could get another player, perhaps second baseman Gordon Beckham, in return.
Trading Bundy? I’ll believe it when I see it.
While Bundy likely won’t contribute until 2015, he represents a significant part of their future and farm system. The Birds aren’t exactly knee deep in prospects.
Are the Orioles really confident enough in Peavy past the few remaining starts he’ll give them in 2013? Or are they just going all in on this season?
Sorry, been away for a few.
Call me in the minority, but I’d rather not see them unload their farm system.
Yeah, I’d rather not as well. At least not Peavy, he’s got too many injury issues. Peavy 6 years ago I would have though.
Jim Bowden of ESPN has said already reported that his source with the O’s has said they are not trading for Peavy even though a trade is imminent.

Peavy has been pretty average since moving from San Diego, if the O’s want to make a push for this season, go for it. If they are in buildling mode for 14 and 15, I wouldn’t make the move.
I will be in the minority on this one but I would trade Bundy (Ben McDonald junior) for a 32 year old starter thirty games over five hundred and a 26 year old second sacker in a Glen Burnie minute. Assuming you can sign both longer term. BRob is on the slide, Beckham becomes the heir apparent, JJ is 32 so you stop gap him and move Schoop to short, if you can sign strike out king CD, you have a better than decent infield with back ups long term. I wish you well in the windy city Dylan selling insurance.
I like your reasoning however I don’t think Peter the Great would pay fourteen million for a pitcher to pitch once every five days,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I think that is what Peavy is getting these days,,,,,,,,,,,,,anyway , he is not much better than what we already have,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Gee they could have had Garza a week ago and beat the Bosox two out of three instead of losing two out of three,,,,,you see , quality pitching does make a difference,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Welcome back MGW……………..
You state
“but the success rate of pitchers recovering from the operation is quite good”
Then cite Vizcaino? Vizcaino still hasn’t pitched for the Cubs and had another setback months ago.
Yea Zach,,,,,what gives,,,,,,,,,you are getting like MGW . who believes just because you say it makes it right,,,,,,,,,,,,actually this isn’t the case , you can say things that are wrong,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Reading comprehension 101 folks…author of the BSR article is quoting Ken Rosenthal, thus the italics.
Geez!
Show me where italics have taken the place of quotes,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Anyway , shouldn’t the author check the accuracy of things he is quoting to legitimize his article ???????
Heck , people have quoted me on things I saod that were in correct , does the fact they quoted me make them accurate now ?
Brother spy, are you really trying to tell us about proper punctuation???????????????,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,……………………………….
