It’s all over, Orioles fans. The losing season streak is no more.
Whether you believe the bogus columns and podcasts about the O’s miracle 2012 season being flukey or lucky or simply chalk it up to a well constructed team with the smartest manager in baseball, we can all agree that the consecutive losing season streak is finally snapped.
Sunday in Oakland, the Orioles defeated the Athletics 9-5 for their 82nd win of the season. They haven’t won more than 79 games since 1997 and their last winning season before that was the year before when Davey Johnson led the O’s to the ALCS.
My prediction for this season was 75 wins. The O’s made that thought look stupid on September 4. I continued to tell friends that I wouldn’t be disappointed in this club if they finished with a winning season, breaking the 14 year drought. I stand by that, but I know that Buck Showalter and the Orioles have their minds set on much loftier goals.
To me, this is a stepping stone. I realize 14 years is a long time between “steps” but what’s done is done.
Buck and DD can now talk to free agents and tell them they can be the “missing piece of the puzzle” and it would hold water.
Most of baseball has stood up and taken notice of what has gone on this year and hopefully, this allows for the step in restoring this franchise.
Go O’s!! Loving how guys are just stepping up ie, McClouth hitting .346 in the month of Sept and taking the rains on the leadoff spot. Love it!!
