When Chris Davis breaks out of a slump, he does it in a big way.
On Thursday, the Orioles first baseman stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the second in the midst of an 0-for-17 and snapped the drought with his league-leading 34th home run. With that long ball, Davis reached new career highs in homers and RBI (86).
His 86 RBI before the All-Star break ties Boog Powell‘s club record set in 1969.
Since June 29, Davis has seven hits: six home runs and one double.
Amazingly, Davis is one of three players this season to have over half of his hits go for extra bases (Adam Dunn and Carlos Gonzalez are the others). Nearly 1/3 of his hits are home runs (34 of 103).
So far this season, Davis has homered once every 9.76 at-bats.
