Wait, what? You read that headline correctly.
MLB Network’s Peter Gammons presented an interesting argument for Jorge Posada leaving New York and joining the Orioles in a recent appearance on WEEI. Gammons said that he could see a scenario in which the Yankees release the struggling veteran catcher and that he gets picked up by the Orioles.
“I know where he’d go. He’d go right to Baltimore, with Matt Wieters, do a little catching, let Wieters DH twice a week, and go back with Buck [Showalter], who knew him pretty well from the Yankee organization,” Gammons said according the transcript of his interview.
As MLB Trade Rumors points out, Buck Showalter’s last season managing the Yankees was Posada’s rookie year.
Hip hip…???
Oh no…All the Jake “Wind Blown” Fox fans are going to jump on this…you listening Sadler? After all of those dingers Foxy hit down in the 65 mph winds of Sarasota, some had annointed him the next Sultan of Swat. We sit here 2 months later with a light hitting defensive liability. Don’t take this as an endorsement for Posada, far from it…don’t want the guy unless it’s as a coach, but what will happen to “Wind Blown” if we do sign Hip, Hip, Jorge?!?
Seems like a long shot. But interesting. And will Posada hit at all this year?

Bringing Jorge here would fit in nicely with the O’s long history of far-too-late in their career player acquisitions…From Dwight Evans and Rick Burleson to Chris Sabo and Sammy Sosa…To Garret Atkins and Derrik Lea and Vlad…Same crap now that MacPhail is here as it was in prior regimes…Welcome aboard, Jorge!
Hip hip would defensively be a step up from Jami Foxx’s brother Jake. He probably won’t hit a lick, but maybe he can provide inside skinny on how to be the dreaded Yanks. I for one endorse Posada coming here…certainly beats the alternative.
All the makings for Posada to come to Baltimore… 8 things…
He’s…
1. Old
k. Can’t hit
5. Past his prime
9. Cannot play defense
M. Would not want to come to Baltimore but does because no other team wants him… (See Lee, Derrick and Guerrero, Vlad)
P6. Is now playing out of position (Played 1st recently)
X. Previously played for a current Oriole Manager or General Manager
Typical Oriole transaction… Welcome to B-More Jorge… Enjoy the other has-beens like Vlad, Derrick Lee, Duchscherer, Fox, Andino, Pie, Reimold and Gonzalez…
