I’m still grinning like an idiot thinking about the confetti falling in the Superdome after the Baltimore Ravens were crowned Super Bowl Champions. So much so that I’ve chosen to ignore their terrible salary cap situation for the 2013-2014 season.

Part of the team’s tight financial situation has to do with Terrell Suggs‘ contract. The Ravens’ linebacker has two years remaining on his current deal and his cap number is an astounding $13.02 million according to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com.

With Joe Flacco due to make top five quarterback money, the Ravens could be over $20 million above the salary cap.

Many have implied that cutting Terrell Suggs in an effort to re-sign him to a more team-friendly deal would be their best solution going forward. However, Luke Jones points out that the Ravens would only save $1.8 million with $11.2 in dead money.

The Ravens would have to completely restructure Suggs’ deal altogether.

If only they could hop in the DeLorean and take back that five-year deal for Ray Rice. I like the guy, but man does that deal hurt.
