Orioles Acquire Bud Norris From Astros

Bud Norris

Update: Done deal. Orioles acquire Bud Norris for L.J. Hoes, Josh Hader and their 2014 Competitive Balance Pick.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com is reporting that the Orioles have agreed to acquire Bud Norris from the Astros for outfielder L.J. Hoes “and another piece.”

Rosenthal says the deal is being finalized now.

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that Josh Hader is the “other piece” in the deal. The O’s will also reportedly send the Astros their Competitive Balance pick. However, Danny Knobler of CBS Sports reports that Hader’s medicals could lead to a switch in the second prospect that Houston will acquire.

Bud The Stud has scuffled in July, allowing opponents to hit .290/.376/.495 and pitching to a 6.38 ERA in four starts.

The best part of this deal for the O’s is that Norris is earning just $3 million in 2013 and is under team control through 2015. As Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors points out, he will be eligible for arbitration for the second time this offseason.

The non-waiver trade deadline ends at 4 PM.

Improved your 2013 team without disturbing the team’s 25 chemistry. Norris will be another arm to bolster the rotation for now and probably be a bull pen guy in the future. Feels like Christmas in July.

The thing I like about Bud is that he misses bats. In the bandbox we call Camden Yards, a strikeout guy is nice to have. This isn’t as good as Peavy (Still don’t like the Garza rental for 2 months), but I think Bud fills in nicely behind Chen, Tillman, and Gonzalez.

You know, it’s hard for the Orioles to get any form of praise from me but this was a great deal for the Orioles. I actually think Norris could be a 17 game winner. He needed a change of scenery plus the Astros have sucked for years. They got him thru 2015 and gave up nothing. Listen closely MGW… Good job on this trade Orioles…

This move shows they are trying to improve and make a run this season. With minimal loss of prospects this gives a needed push to the rotation which will hopefully pay dividends. The Rays are playing very good baseball and the Sox have been leading for most the season. The O’s are trying to keep up the pace and see how this year plays out.

Although, technically Bud isn’t ace quality so we aren’t out of the woods yet, Spy probably won’t approve.
