The BSR Weekend Discussion

Welcome to a new segment on BSR, where we will pose a question to our readers and staff, and everyone can engage in some discussion and debate in the comments section. While the comments should initially be related to the question posed, think of this as an open, free-flowing discussion between commenters. As always, express your opinions, but try to keep it fairly clean.

This weekend’s question: Are you satisfied with the Ravens’ offseason at this point? What more, if anything, needs to be done?

I’ll start, don’t be afraid to comment and share your opinion pertaining to the question or in reply to something another commenter says.

I think the team has done all they can do with the hand they were dealt in terms of the salary cap. While cutting the four veterans hurts as a fan, it shows that Ozzie and Co. want the team to get younger, and have faith in their recent draft picks.

I would’ve liked to see the Ravens add another cornerback into the fold along with Chris Carr, and I think that the front office has waited too long to try to nab a free agent receiver to complement Anquan Boldin. With Malcom Floyd staying in SD, bringing back Derrick Mason reeks of a desperate move.

Pretty satisfied. Love the Leach and Yanda signings. Would have liked to have seen them bring back Josh Wilson and sign Floyd but you can only do so much with the salary cap. Wish they would have agreed to a contract with Ngata right after the lockout ended in order to free up some salary. I wouldn’t sign anyone else except for a decent backup QB. Give the young guys like Kruger, Kindle and Torry Smith a shot.. Overall I would give Ozzie a B minus

Thanks for wanting my opinion,,,,,,,,,Ozzie continues to get a free pass but no one can tell me why…………he has mismanaged the salary cap and drafted pretty poor (on average) the past five years,,,,,,,,,,he will once again keep the Ravens from a super bowl appearance………….

Pretty poor if you ask me , and you did.

  • The offensive line always worries me. I feel like I say that every year though. I was really hoping that the Ravens were going to sign Malcom Floyd. While Derrick Mason has done a lot here in Baltimore, I was fine with him moving on if Baltimore went after Floyd. Now that hasn’t happened and the Ravens absolutely need to re-sign Mason.

Corners also concern me. The Ravens are heavily relying on a guy who is coming off of knee surgery in Domonique Foxworth. Who knows what we’ll get out of him. Carr is nickle who is in a bigger role this year and Jimmy Smith is a rookie. The corners will be as good as the pressure provided up front. That’s why I thought a trade for Umeyiora was important.

Staying with the o-line, the Rabach debacle is embarrassing, to say the least. If a guy really can’t pass his physical, it makes it seem like the front office did not do a good enough job checking out everything about Rabach’s health before they tried to get him.

Ozzie has let this team down this off season , the first game against the Steelers is a concern , I doubt if Harbaugh can ‘coach’em up “…………..

Ravens appear a little thin at RB, o- line, and WR. Lots of promise at WR and RB, but it’s a lot of pressure on these young guys. In the back of my mind, barring what could happen before September 11th, this almost appears to be a re-loading year.

Miller Genuine Whiskey (MGW)…”Re-loading” is a lot more appealing than “re-building”, eh? We all need to keep in mind that if the Bills Stevie Johnson had caught the pass in the end zone to defeat the Stillers, the Ravens wouldda had home field advantage in the playoffs…And, unlike how the Billick-led Ravens squandered home field advantage against the Indys, Coach Harbs wouldda used the home field to his advantage!
