Orioles designated hitter/first baseman Aubrey Huff is scheduled for sports hernia surgery Friday. Huff will be out of the gym, but should be able to resume baseball activities in six weeks and still report to spring training Feb. 19.

RUMOR: Roberts to Cubs today?

Sun reporter Roch Kubatko is reporting that he has been swamped all day with e-mails, including  one from Baseball America who is asking whether the Brian Roberts deal to the Cubs is official.
Andy MacPhail has stated that the rumor is “very inaccurate.”

ESPN’s New York affiliate 1050 AM is reporting that the Yankees are negotiating a three-year $6 million deal with the 2006 NL Manager of the year, Joe Girardi.

Alex Rodriguez’s agent Scott Boras announced during game 4 of the World Series that his client will opt out of his contract leaving the New York Yankees.

BRIEFLY: BOS 10 - COL 5

The Red Sox took a 3 game lead looking for the sweep in the World Series against the Rockies. Dice-K Matsuzaka pitched 5 1/3 with 5 K’s, 3 Hits, and 2 Earned Runs. He also went 1-3 with 2 RBIs at the plate.

BRIEFLY: Ortiz gets start at 1st

With Boston up 2-0 in the World Series they headed west to Colorado for game 3 tonight and lose a spot in their lineup following NL rules. The Red Sox have decided that Kevin Youkilis with be watching from the dugout while slugger David Ortiz starts at 1st base.

Curt Schilling pitched 5 1/3 strong innings as Boston went up 2-0 in the World Series Thursday night. Colorado got an early 1-0 lead, but Boston’s Mike Lowell drove in the tie breaking run in the fifth inning. The series continues Saturday in Colorado for game 3.
