After blowing Brad Bergesen‘s 5-1 lead through eight innings against the AL East leading Boston Red Sox, the O’s must venture west for their next seven games.

They start in Anaheim for four against the first place Angels and wrap up with three in Seattle against the Mariners.

This is the O’s second west coast road trip of the 2009 season. The first didn’t go so well. The Birds went 1-5 last trip and the left coast helped to contribute to a stretch of 8 losses in  the 10 games played in June.

Baltimore dropped two at home to the Angels in April. They’re 2-4 against the M’s, 1-2 on the road.

The O’s put together their largest comeback in history on Tuesday and were three outs away from winning the series against the BoSox. A series win against Boston would have been the momentum needed to start this week long swing out west.

Tonight it’s Jeremy Guthrie on the hill, he’s 6-7 with a 5.11 ERA. However, Guthrie has held his previous four opponents to three earned runs in an average of six innings pitched. His ERA is 3.70 in those games against the Mariners, Mets, Phillies, and Nationals.

Despite having no momentum, the O’s have got to put together a good road trip. They have been historically bad out west, let’s hope that changes.
