I could put pretty much the entire O’s roster on the “Who’s Not” section of this week’s edition considering they haven’t won a game since I last posted. During the O’s five-game losing streak, the pitching staff has given up 26 runs while the offense has generated only 14. The starters have struggled and the offense has been uncharacteristically sluggish with the exception of Adam Jones (big surprise). It’s not time to panic just yet, though, because every team has their fair share of losing streaks throughout the season. The upside for the O’s is that they are still tied for first in the toughest division in baseball, as the Rays just got done being swept by the White Sox at home. The O’s hope to add to the Rays’ slide and end their own when they begin a three-game set tonight at Tropicana Field.

Who’s Hot

Adam Jones – It didn’t take long for Jones to prove he is worth the six-year, $85.5 million deal the O’s gave him. After the O’s signed him to the deal this past Sunday, Jones has went 4-for-9 at the plate with two home runs and three RBI over his past three games. He is about the only O’s hitter doing anything at the plate right now and is batting .333 over the past seven days. He needs his teammates to start helping him out offensively or their five-game slide could quickly turn into eight or nine.

Chris Davis – Davis is batting .409 with three home runs over the past seven days and now has nine home runs and 23 RBI on the season. He had his five-game hit streak snapped Wednesday after going 9-for-19 with three multi-hit games during that span. He still continues to strike out too much, though, and has now been sat down on strikes at least once for seven straight games.

Who’s Not

Nick Markakis – Besides “tweaking” his right wrist on Tuesday night, which forced him to sit out of Wednesday’s game, Markakis has just two hits in his last 18 at-bats. He is one of many O’s that can’t seem to put the bat on the ball right now, and if his wrist injury is worse than it looks, it may be a little harder for him to get back on track.

Tommy Hunter – A day after another sub-par performance where he allowed six runs, five earned, on nine hits in just over three innings of work, Hunter was optioned down the Triple-A Norfolk. Hunter is now winless in his last six starts and can’t seem to keep the ball from being up over the plate. He has now allowed ten earned runs and 18 hits in his last nine innings of work, which has raised his ERA to 5.59 on the season.
