After a successful 5-2 homestand the Baltimore Orioles traveled west to face the Seattle Mariners and the hot hitting Ichiro Suzuki. Ichiro had a 24 game hit streak going into the game and the Mariners were 11-10 when he had a multi hit game.

Earlier in the day, Luke Scott was awarded AL Player of the Week, it was his second time receiving the honor (July 20, 2009) and he was last Oriole since Aubrey Huff to win the award.

Rich Hill took the mound for the Orioles making his 2nd start against Seattle. Hill allowed 3 runs on 8 hits while striking out 5 in 6.2 innings. Last night he topped that performance, 7 innings, 2 hits, 0 earned runs, 7 K’s. Nasty.

Jim Johnson came in to relieve Hill and continued the star performance that Hill started on the mound. Johnson retired the side straight and struck out the first two.

Then it was flat breezy time, George Sherrill 11th save and he too faced only three batters.

The O’s scored in the 6th off an Aubrey Huff sacrifice fly. They were held to only 6 total hits, but got the job down out west in game one.
