Phew. These west coast games suck.
I know the saying, “momentum is only as good as your next day’s starter.” But what’s the saying about a young team that blows a four run lead in the ninth and then has the travel across the country to play a first place team?
John Lackey, who a loss and a no decision in his previous two starts, had a little help from his offense last night to get the win.
The Angels’ ace had no issue with the Baltimore bats through his eight innings of work. Lackey gave up just one single through his first four innings of work. The Orioles looked to strike in the fifth, but couldn’t fully capitalize.
Matt Wieters tied the game with an RBI single, but then Lackey fanned Robert Andino and Brian Roberts with two men on.
Luke Scott hit a solo homerun in the seventh inning. He appears to have found his stroke again, he’s the definition of a streak hitter.
Two runs just isn’t enough to beat this line up. Bobby Abreu had four RBI for himself, two homeruns off Jeremy Guthrie and the birds dropped game one 5-2.
