It seemed like there were only 12 or 13 people at Yankee Stadium to watch the Orioles beat up on the Yankees on Tuesday afternoon. Seriously, this is a picture someone posted on Reddit during the seventh inning stretch:
Somehow, two of those fans managed to make their way onto the field for a little jogging on the field late in the game. In his postgame interview, Orioles centerfielder Adam Jones didn’t hold back when asked about the trespassers.
Adam Jones on penalties for fans running onto field: "They should let us have a shot to kick them w/ our metal spikes on because its stupid"

More Jones on the on-field visitors: "Anybody who does it, I wish the cops tase the living sh*t out of them. I wish that.”

Jones is right and players should be more vocal about this issue. No one knows the intentions of the guys that are trespassing on the field and I think it safe to say that most are heavily under the influence of alcohol.
You could see Jones hollering at the guy as he was being escorted off the field.
I do agree with it is stupid when fans run out on the field and I understand where Adam Jones is coming from considering he is basically working and being distracted, but I must say that the old saying “I went to a Hot Dog race and a baseball game broke out” really applies to fans running out on the field as well. I have been to two games in my life where fans have run out on the field and the most energy I heard out of the crowd during the entire game was during that period of time, sad but true.
I’m glad you’re being honest Ben. Fans, sadly, do view idiots running on the field as “fun”. Why, I have no idea. The MLB should be more concerned about what the players think than what the fans think. Having fans run onto the field is a legitimate safety concern, not just for the idiot doing it, but for the players as will. Case in point: the guy who ran on the field was behind Ryan Flaherty. Imagine if that guy had any desire to cause harm to Flaherty. He would have been in a perfect position to do so. I like what the Orioles do, and I wish the MLB would make teams have to be more accountable in this matter like the Orioles. If nothing else, teams should be protecting their investments.
I’m with ya, Ben. Crowds seemed good last week, but let’s see how they respond with Toronto and Tampa in town next week. That’ll be the test.
Jones just proves his stupidity with comments like this . Maybe he should spend more time learning how to hit a low curve ball or gain the discipline to lay off a low pitch out of the strike zone . Just maybe these guys were trying to show him where to play in center field and told him his gold glove was given to him in error because it sure wasn’t based on his defense .
His “stupidity”? REALLY? Yeah, I guess Adam Jones is stupid for not wanting drunk idiots on the field where they could, if they had the desire to do so, hurt him or one of his teammates. Heck, the guy who was on the field at Yankee Stadium was “hiding” behind Ryan Flaherty. He was in a perfect position to severely hurt Ryan Flaherty had he wanted to. Luckily, he didn’t. But the MLB shouldn’t be waiting for an incident when a player or coach gets severely injured by a drunk idiot running on the field. Oh wait, THAT ALREADY HAPPENED AND SHORT OF INCREASED SECURITY FOR A FEW WEEKS, NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. Google “royals base coach attacked”. Google “Monica Seles Stabbing”. Adam Jones is 100% right in his comments. I’d feel threatened by fans on the field too. They’re drunk enough to run on the field, who knows what else they’re drunk enough to do?
As far as your other comments, you’re entitled to have your own opinion, and I’m not gonna try to take that right away from you. Just know that your opinion is the wrong one. 95% of MLB players would LOVE to have Adam Jones’s stats the past two years. Also, there are facts that say that Jones is seeing more pitches per at bat this year, but again, you’re entitled to your own opinion, even if it is the wrong one!
I will agree with you on one thing, and one thing only: Gold Gloves are complete BS. There needs to be a much better system of determining who is the best defensive player at each position. Every single voter should have to defend their choices. Maybe then we’d at least have some idea of why they voted the way that they did. Ditto for AL MVP and Cy Young.
By his stupidity I was referring to his lack of discipline to properly speak on the subject and not talk out of emotion,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,you can argue a point properly and he did not display the discipline to argue properly just like his lack of discipline at the plate,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,while his offensive numbers are decent just imagine how great they could be if he had more pitch awareness , he might even challenge the batting crown every year,,,,,,,,,,,,I like Adam and would like to see him become a more rounded person on and off the field and all it would take is a little more discipline,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,You see , I never said he was wrong I voiced my opinion (which you cannot take from me) on his stupidity voicing his comments in the manner in which he did and he could do so much better and bring better opinions towards himself and the city of Baltimore,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Thanks for your concern,,,,,,the spy has spoken………………..
But you love the way Ray Rice and Stevie Biscuit represent Baltimore?!!
Biscuit’s comments, just 24 hours before Rice’s charges were ratcheted up to a felony charge were the most assanine, egotistical comments I’ve ever heard. “Stand by your man” Stevie Biscuit because you know damned well if you cut him (should have never resigned a RB with all those miles on him) your salary cap is crushed the next two years.
I don’t stand by Ray Rice at all , as a matter of fact I think the contract Ozzie gave him was a joke and don’t know why this was done when we were going into cap hell already,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Steve is allowed to say what he wants as he has enough money to cover his tracks,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Rice should be jailed and suspended for eight games , now does that sound like I’m standing by him ?
I thought this topic was on Adam Jones???? You didn’t mention his name once.
You didn’t? I guess you missed my first post, which by the way, was the first post on this topic.
I wasn’t talking about your first post, I was talking about one on football. Plus the first post wasn’t a comment it was an observation.
