Ozzie Newsome and the Ravens are giving a new definition to March Madness. The castle is bumping right now and the latest news is that the Ravens are going to sign one-year, $1.5 million contract with Philadelphia Eagles free agent tight end L.J. Smith.

If the Ravens cut Todd Heap, who turned 29 yesterday, they will free up only $1.06 million since he is owed a $3.6 million base salary in 2009. Heap has a $6.09 million salary-cap figure.
To answer the question, no, Todd Heap will not be released by the Ravens this season. Signing L.J. Smith adds depth to the Ravens, Heap and Smith are two different style tight ends. Smith is more of a blocking end, while Heap is traditionally seen as a receiving end.
It would not make sense for the Ravens to get rid of Heap from a cap and an offensive standpoint.
I’d like to see Heap see more action, like a few years ago. He has what it takes.
I’d also like to see the Ravens re-sign Lorenzo Neal… dude that guy is still a STUD.
I think the style of offense that was instilled this year by Cam Cameron is different than what Heap is used to…just wait, I bet we’ll see a more adjusted Todd this year.
I love Neal too, he was the man last year and we need a fullback. He’s just UP there in age.
