Thoughts on the ChiSox closing situation? If Santos does get axed do you think its Thorton, Sale, other?
What is Melky Cabreras realistic trade value?
@Ross – I don’t think Santos will lose it. Or at least he shouldn’t lose it. He is hitting the first rough patch of this season that everyone goes through eventually. He’s been so good up to this point that they need to give him a longer leash that just one slump. If Ozzie Guillen were to make another rash and bad move then I would hope Thornton will get another shot since he was the original closer and has the most upside.
@Bill – Melky doesn’t have a whole lot of value. Those who have him know how productive he’s been and those who don’t will either not know or will assume that he will crash and burn eventually…which he might. If you could get a decent low end starter with upside like Porcello, Arrieta, or Nicasio I’d do it.
I picked up Morse when Holliday went on the DL. With Holliday due back Thursday, would you continue to ride the Morse train and drop a guy like Alex Gordon or am I being too short sighted?
@MGW – Morse actually seems to be pretty consistent. Do you have anyone else besides Gordon to cut? Gordon has more upside than Morse and is great in the leadoff spot so I wouldn’t cut him. Long term he is probably better than Morse. Morse has trade value though, I picked him up a few weeks back and traded him in all of my leagues.
Seeing that Dustin Ackley got called up, what do you project for the rest of the season and where would you rank him amoung second basemen for the rest of the year?
What are you thoughts on this trade? Pujols and Hanley Ramirez for Billy Butler, Mauer, and David Price.
@Stephen T – I just don’t see Ackley being an impact guy but if your desperate he’s worth a risk. He only hit .280 in the minors and his power and speed wasn’t that great either. Power is the last tool to develop so I’m not worried about that, but I think it’s going to take him awhile to develop. Just like Gordon Beckham.
@Terry M. – If your getting Pujols and Hanley do it right now. If your not then forget it and don’t try to shop either of them to anyone else.
Lol. Great advice. It was the other way around and he pulled the offer within seconds of mentioning it.
Pandoval or Ry-Zi?
@Zach – Long term Zimm, but I’d want them both. One at 3B and one at Utility. Lets hope Pablo starts 5 games at catcher like the Giants were talking about. Then you can move him to catcher.
For the rest of the year would you go with Sybarite or A. Escobar?
For the rest of the year would you go with Aybar or A. Escobar?
@Jack – I don’t think Aybar will make it the rest of the year because he is always hurt. If he’s healthy I like his numbers better. I like Alcides better by far in the future because he has a higher ceiling, will improve the avg a little, and will be a stolen base machine…he is on a hot streak right now, but its only a streak..eventually he will come back down to killing your average, not getting many hits, and stealing bases when and if he gets on…next year or the year after your looking at a solid SS…for this year its Aybar…if he stays healthy.
So should I drop Billy Butler for Pablo?
@Zach – Pablo is better than Butler. I wouldn’t want to cut any of them though.
thank you fantasy god….. one more questioun…. this is more of a baseball question…. if a pitcher gives up no earned runs….. but an unearned run scores… and they lose 1-0….. does the pitcher record a loss?…..
would you trade cahill, and peagan for peralta?….. iam hurting bad in middle infield and i got this trade proposal….. iam doing good streaming in pitchers…… i just feel as though hitting is harder to come by then pitching…… theres tons of fa starters who put up good games… where as a good hitter generALLY never on the market unless hes injured… should i make this deal, fantasy god?
Realistically, what could I expect in return for any combination of two of these guys…Adam Jones, Logan Morrison, Matt Joyce, Jose Tabata. I’m looking for another elite to 2nd tier outfielder , particularly one who can provide some pop. I’ve definitely missed the sell-high on Matt Joyce boat but he still has some value.
@Collin – Adam Jones is your second outfielder. He is not overachieving he is simply doing what he was projected to do. As long as he stays healthy he is legit. I really like LoMo and he was great for most of the season. This is the first slump he’s hit all year and that’s why his number are dropping. I see him leveling out over a .300 AVG with 25 HR. That is what he is projected to do in the big leagues. Joyce was overachieving, but was still somewhat underrated in the past. He is not as good as he was earlier this season, but he’s not terrible either. Of the 4 listed he is the 4th best. He could hit .280 from here on out. Tabata will eventually be a solid leadoff hitter who can hit .300 and be a league leader in steals. He is underrated and I like him long term. Unfortunately the Pirates will fall off eventually and he will struggle some more. I think he will go through some more major ups and downs, but I can see him finishing strong and heading into a nice 2012.
Didn’t mean to come off as an owner disappointed in Jones, I drafted him late and i’ve loved his production, in a perfect world he’d be my lights out third outfielder. More importantly than my outfield…I want to, but am hesitant to drop Morneau. Right now i’ve been using Helton and his resurgent AVG, Smoak’s available and i’m starting to lean heavily towards dropping Morneau and alternating Smoak and Helton depending on matchups (at least until I can pry Konerko from my buddy’s cold dead fingers) Other available guys: Pena, Trumbo, Wallace, Huff, Napoli is about to clear waivers.
@Collin – I do like Helton better than everyone available to you.
hey there fantasy god….. its been awhile…. iam still dominating by streaming in starters daily…. ive even settled with having just 3 closers…… ostarters are where the money is… but ive come back to ask an odd question…. my opponent this week follows the same strategy and he has brought in collementer…. and also has masterson and niese starting as well…. i got cahill and vargas starting tommorow but oam concerned i might need to bring in some one else….. would you drop either britton or pavano… for karstens? it would just be a spot start…. would be silly to think that eithe of those pitchers would sit in free angency…. i know britton is your guy but iam totally thinking hes run his course…. hes still 58% owned in most leagues… could i deal him?
@bobee – I’m sure you could deal Britton and if you could get an ace for him I would do it. I don’t think he’s done yet, because his last outing was good, but he did overachieve some and is starting to come down. He still puts up pretty good numbers for a rookie. No I would not cut him. Pavano is on fire right now, but he isn’t really a long term guy. If it will determine the difference between you winning and losing then go ahead and cut Pavano for Karstens. Karstens has been very good lately too. Long term Pavano is better than Karstens though.
@bobee – Yes that is a loss. It happened to Erik Bedard this week. He gave up 0 earned runs, 2 unearned and lost.
@bobee – Nope still wouldn’t. Cahill is an ace and has much more value than Peralta. Shortstops don’t do a whole lot typically so there are plenty of decent ones out there. You can get a much better SS if your looking to deal Cahill. I would rather target Asdrubal Cabrera or Elvis Andrus or try to buy low on someone like Rollins instead of buying high on Peralta.
well…. the issue to is 3rd base….. peralta is eligible for ss and 3rd… my hitting is hurting…. and iam not to worried about cahill cause i have been the leading scorer the last 4 weeks even with cahill’s recent issues…… however… hes back to his old ways putting up 3o points a start….. but peralta averages close to 8 points a day… i still got cliff lee and dan haren too……. but i get how you could say iam selling low….. its just i feel like i can because i have pitching…. my hitting is good….. but i want it to be amazing…..
what about hunter pence and peralta for peagan and cahill?…. would that be better?
I’ve been offered Paul Konerko and Cole Hamels for my Ryan Howard and David Price.
I don’t have much faith in Howard, but I’m afraid I’d be selling low on him and especially Price, and buying high on Konerko and Hamels. Please help!
@bobee – I like Pence/Peralta for Cahill/Pagan much better. That one is fine.
@Mike Silver – That’s not a bad offer, but I’d pass. Although Konerko has been good for a few years now, Howard is a 2nd half player. Over his career he is a .295 hitter in the 2nd half. Last year he was injured in the second half so dismiss those numbers, but in 2009 he hit .305 in the second half. In 2008 hit .234 in the 1st and upped it to .276 in the 2nd. Every year there has been a huge boost in numbers in his second half. In 2006 he went from .278 to .355. Price is also just as good as Hamels. I think your guys have much more upside.
Thanks! That’s basically what I was thinking. I’m a Phillies fan and prone to pessimism, but if there’s anyone I should believe in it’s Howard after the break.
Try this one on for size (this guy really wants Howard). I don’t even know how to evaluate this trade, there are so many people involved.
My Howard, Pence and Price for his Konerko, Hamels, Choo, Dan Hudson, and Humber/Latos/Morrow. I’d be dropping some dead weight (probably Karstens and Seth Smith/Laynce Nix).
For 20 years they have been asking me the same question, who is the greatest? Maradona or Pele? I reply that all you have to do is look at the facts – how many goals did he score with his right foot or with his head?
@Leta – I don’t follow kickball
I’ve got Molina as my C and Helton/Pena as my 1B. Napoli looks pretty attractive as a c/1B eligible replacement for one of them. What do you think about Napoli the rest of the way?
@Collin – The problem with Napoli is playing time. Before his DL stint he was a platoon guy and I’m not sure that will really change. Helton is a solid hitter and I do like him long term. Now that Pena’s hot streak is over I wouldn’t really hang onto him. Napoli could be a good guy for you to plug in whenever he is playing and when Helton has a bad matchup or Molina has a day off. I don’t mind that idea. Napoli has some good power for his position, especially in that park.
I need a DH player very badly. Currently my DH is Adam Dunn and he consistently brings in negatives. I am proposing a trade. Can you tell me if this is a good trade.
I will be trading Carlos Santana, Josh Hamilton, Adam Dunn, Carlos Marmol and Trevor Cahill for
Brian Mccann, Hunter pence, Adam Lind, Dillon Gee and Heath Bell.
I am trading Marmol and Cahill because theuy are not needed. They are just throw ins because they will not be playing anyway. My rotation alreadfy consists of Jurrjens, Hanson, Price, Vogelsong and Kershaw. My relievers are Francisco Cordero and Andrew Bailey
@Greg – Your upgrading your catcher, losing at outfield, upgrading your dh, staying the same at closer, and losing on pitching…thats 2 upgrades and 2 loses…that makes it a balanced trade…if u can afford to lose on pitching for that other big bat then go ahead…Dunn will eventually hit though. His career is not over. This is the first bad half he’s ever had and it came after he had to adjust to a new league, new pitchers, and a new role as a DH. I look for him to bounce back in the second half, but he won’t be as good as Adam Lind. Trevor Cahill is a lot better than Dillon Gee though. Your really losing the deal on pitching but gaining on hitting.
Ok thank you very much! I will try to hold out on Dunn a little longer. But if i do propose the trade, would it be better just forget all of the pitchers and just go with the three hitters. Is it worth it to get rid of Hamilton?
Hey TFG! Which 3 would you start – Cuddyer, Hunter Pence, Brennan Boesch, or Mike Morse ?
Also with the guy u dont select would you rather use him or Pablo Sandoval in the UTIL* Spot ? FYI this is for yahoo fantasy baseball
Yo, my starters are Gallardo, Ubaldo, Anibal Sanchez, Bumgarner, Bud Norris, Colon, Vogelsong, Phil Hughes. Gallardo is my only consistent guy in the W category, but without a steals guy, Would it ne crazy to flip him for Michael Bourn nd and ethier or Heyward type of guy? This is more of a move to put me over the top. What are your thoughts?
