Just how big is hockey in Baltimore? Pretty big during Wednesday night’s game seven. In Baltimore the game drew a 5.1 rating, which was 17th in the country. Though without a hockey franchise, Baltimore’s rating for the game beat nine NHL cities according to Dan Steinberg of the D.C. Sports Bog.
Washington didn’t do too shabby either.
Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final on NBC Wednesday night earned a 6.1 rating in the D.C. market. That’s good for about 146,000 households, which strikes me as a lot of people.
Washington’s rating was 12th in the nation, beating out New York and Philadelphia and the rest of the NHL’s Southeast Division markets.
Is hockey just catching on nationwide, has Caps mania caught Baltimore’s attention, or was this just an exciting sports spectacle not to be missed by fans in the city?
It’s because Baltimore needs to build the new arena and attract an NHL and the NBA! We could, without a doubt, support them.
