Next time you want to win a bar bet, ask who has the most 100-yard receiving games for the Ravens in their history. The answer is Mark Clayton with 9 of them. Another interesting factoid is that he is the only non-quarterback to throw for a touchdown in Ravens history.
Despite being listed as the #2 WR, Clayton was tied for fourth in receptions with 34 for 480 yards and 2 TDs. Some say that it was his inability to create space while others would point to Flacco’s lack of confidence in his receivers. Either way, it was completely obvious by watching any game that Clayton was the 4th option behind Ray Rice, Derrick Mason, and Todd Heap.
2010 Outlook: At the end of the day, Clayton provides valuable experience for the Ravens receiving corp, yet the outlook looks pretty bleak for Clayton. With the additions of Anquan Boldin and Donte’ Stallworth, it looks as if Clayton will be on the outside looking in most of the season. However, it’s quite possible that any of the top 3 will spend some time injured and it will be up to Clayton to prove his worth. At the same token, if Clayton slips at all, look for Demetrius Williams to move ahead of him in the depth chart.
