2009- Kelly Gregg made a successful return to field after missing all of 2008 with a knee injury. He started 14 games and played in all 16. While it was good to have Buddy Lee back on the field, it seemed at times that he lacked his usual punch. It wasn’t until later in the season when we saw him really get into the backfield and create some havoc. Gregg is a run stuffer and so it’s not always easy to judge his performance based on his numbers. That being said there were moments in the season where the Ravens run defense also suffered. Needless to say, both Kelly Gregg and the Ravens D as a whole made significant improvement at the end of the season.
2010 Projection- At this point, Gregg is still the man in the middle but Rookie Terrence Cody will be right behind him. Gregg is in the latter part of his career and he should see his game reps declining over the scope of the season. I still think he will remain the starter this season. Then again, if he proves to be disruptive to the opposition’s offense, things could change.
