Job security has been the question of the day for Washington Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau as the Capitals run through the playoffs appears to be winding down. Throughout the season, Boudreau’s job has been questioned and then praised, from an eight game losing streak in November and December to climbing back against the Lightning in the Southeast and the edging Flyers in the division.
As the Capitals look to avoid being swept by the Lightning tonight, reporters again asked Boudreau about his job. Katie Carrera of the Washington Post quoted Boudreau via twitter, “You guys have been asking me that all year. Is your job on the line? Well then, I don’t wanna answer that. Stupid question, stupid.”
Boudreau’s Capitals have lost in the conference quarterfinals twice and the conference semifinals in 2009, despite winning the Southeast all four years of his tenure. His job in Washington likely rests on a miracle run over the next four games.
I feel like Boudreau at this point is just delaying the inevitable. There is absolutely no excuse that this team which has won the Southeast the past 4 seasons and has had the top record in the Eastern Conference for that matter struggles so much come playoff time. I don’t know what their mindset is every year come playoff time. Its inexcusable to let up 2 goals in 24 seconds after grabbing the lead. I think the big question is do these Capitals go back to their old ways of trying to out score everybody come Playoff time and forget about Defense all together? Something has to change within these next few hours or I’m sorry to say Mr. Boudreau your tenure in our nations capital will be over!
