#5 Manny Machado Hits Two Home Runs In Second Big League Game
On the night of August 10th, rookie third baseman Manny Machado appeared in just his 2nd game in the major leagues. The night before, in his major league debut, the 20-year old went 2-4 with his first career triple in a 8-2 loss to the Royals. What did he do for an encore the next night? He took Royals’ starter Luke Hochevar deep twice, in both the 5th and 6th innings in the O’s 7-1 victory. Machado became the 12th youngest player in major league history to have a multi-homer game.
And the crowd of 17,277 at Camden Yards felt like 57,000 fans as the Yard went crazy. Quite the moment and gladly, I was able to see it in person.
#4 Bernard Pollard Crushes Stevan Ridley
Pollards’ shot on Ridley was not just a vicious, bone crushing hit, but also a momentum changer for the Ravens in their AFC Championship rematch against the Patriots. Ridley dropped the ball to the turf and the Ravens recovered to keep their eight point lead safe. The Pats had nothing after that.
