OK, you can stop holding your breath now.
After a botched MRI machine (broke) earlier in the day, Manny Machado was finally able to get his right knee scanned and what it showed is a sprained ligament. The MRI revealed no apparent structural damage and after what it looked like on Monday, that is good news. But it still means he will probably be placed on the DL at some point in the next couple days.
“That’s under consideration, ” Dan Duquette said regarding a possible DL stint for Manny. “It may take some time for him to heal. Obviously, we’ll know more tomorrow (today), but I’d say that’s a consideration right now.”
Manny’s running mate on the left side of the infield, JJ Hardy, also got an MRI on his left thumb and that also revealed only a sprain. He’s not expected to play tonight in the series finale vs. the Yankees, and he’ll be re-evaluated after Thursday’s off day.
Speaking of the rain out from last night, it will be made up as a split-admission doubleheader on Sept 12th (1:05. 7:05).
Tonight’s pitching matchups are Chris Tillman (9-5, 3.73) vs. Michael Pineda (2-2, 1.83). Wei-Yin Chen start was moved back to Friday in Cleveland. The Orioles still sit at the top of the AL East with a 68-50 record and with the Blue Jays loss last night in Seattle now have a 6.5 game lead over them and 7.0 games over the Yankees.
