No thank you, Red Sox.
Please indulge me for a minute before I recap what was a great 4-3 win for the home team over the LA Angels and let me talk about the arrogance of the Boston Red Sox organization. In the cliff notes version it would look like this.
Orioles brass, “What would it take to acquire LH SP Jon Lester?” Then the awful, southy-accent responds, “Kevin Gausman AND Dylan Bundy”.
Thanks, but no thanks, kind sir.
No, Jon Lester won’t be donning the jersey of a 1st place AL East team this season as the Red Sos must think he’s Cy Young with a side of Bob Gibson if they wanted both of their division rivals TOP SP pitching prospects. Go bark up another tree, Sox Nation– Like say the OAKLAND ATHLETICS!
As for the game that matter on the field, the Orioles once again found a way to win another tight contest. The aformentioned Gausman was brilliant early on going through a good Angels lineup untouched through 4 2/3 innings en route to his fifth win of the season. Center fielder and de facto captain Adam Jones belted his 21st HR-11th first inning blast this season and 2nd in two nights-to start the Orioles off on the right foot. Bench guys David Lough and Ryan “Flash” Flaherty drove in the other runs picking up the slack with Chris Davis missing his second straight game with flu like symptoms.
The Blue Jays won again and sit only 2.5 games behind, while the Yankees dropped one in Texas to slip 5,5 behind the Birds. The white-hot Rays were cooled off a bit by their former mate Matt Gazra and sit 8.0 games behind. And the BoSox, well they are punting like Sam Koch at this point.
Tonight, the Orioles look to complete the sweep of the wild card leading Angels behind Bud Norris (8-7, 3.94 ERA). Tyler Skaggs (5-5, 4.49 ERA) will oppose him. Norris dominated the Angels just last week going 6 2/3, while allowing only 1 ER striking out 8 in a 4-2 Orioles win.
The Orioles bullpen deserves some shine if not for the last two nights, but for all the great work they’ve done since the AS break.
