Pedro Strop got hit around in the Orioles 8-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday. Strop relieved Luis Ayala and took over with a 5-4 lead in the 7th inning. He surrendered three runs on four hits and struggled to locate his fastball.
Strop’s wild pitch to Desmond Jennings brought Matt Joyce in to score. Joyce reached base when he bunted against the shift for an infield single. Some folks questioned the Orioles decision to shift their infield on Joyce. After the game, Buck Showalter addressed those critics.
“I’ll let the guy who hit the home run to end the game bunt whenever he wants to,” Showalter said according to Eduardo Encina.
Joyce’s solo homer in the 9th led the Rays to an 8-7 walkoff victory.
The shift had nothing to do with it,,,it is all about the tilt of the earth and the O’s returning to a team that will play around .500 baseball…………………..the playoffs are not in this teams future………………….
