As highlighted earlier today, the Orioles rotation could look completely different this time next week. Baltimore’s front office has shown a concern for their pitching depth through the recent additions of veteran Jamie Moyer and lefty Rich Rundles.
If Baltimore plans to stay near the top of the AL East through the end of September, they’re going to have to get better pitching performances than they have gotten over the past few weeks. They could certainly use a healthy Zach Britton, but adding a veteran to this staff could certain help as well.
ESPN’s Buster Olney thinks that A’s starter “Bartolo Colon would be a nice addition for the Orioles.”
Colon proved his worth in New York last season, pitching to an even 4.00 ERA in 26 starts. He’s been even better so far in Oakland with his 3.92 ERA in 13 starts. Colon has a 2.45 ERA in two starts against the Angels and recorded an eight inning shutout against the Rangers.
It’ll all come down to cost. If the Orioles can bring in Colon without giving up too much, I think they’ll pull the trigger. Stay tuned.
pull it now
It’s all about the grind of a season. Players get hurt, if Colon comes relatively cheap, get him. By the end of the season, I guarantee they’ll need him.
Colon makes more sense than Jamie F’ing Moyer. The only Jamie I want on my team has no E in Jami….
He would be a nice addition , he eats innings like a goat but the price is the thing,,,,,,,,,,,Angelos does not like paying pitchers to pitch once every five days , that may be the O’s undoing………….
Correct spy , it is going to be interesting when some of these young guns contracts come up , I really wonder if Angelos will pay them.
If not , it will be the O’s undoing. There will never be long term success for the O’s and if you start following an O’s quality pitcher you better be prepared to see him pitch for other teams, remember Mussina and the Angelos comments about paying top pitchers to pitch once every five days.
we don’t need any goats on the team Ahole.
my picks are cliff lee and alfonso soriano. both will be dumped come trade time and both will fill holes for us. AND, both are worth the dollar.
Dud,
Who are the Orioles trading for Cliff Lee? I mean, come on, that’d be a nice pick up, but who do you trade? Reimold and Bergesen? The Phillies aren’t stupid.
MG,
I’d trade Reimold, Tillman, Bergesen or possible cash considerations for Lee. Biggest piece to this would be the ability to sign him for a few years. Philly is looking to dump salary at this point.
Dude,
So with 100 games left, Chase Utley due back any day, being 6 games back in the loss column for the wild card, the cash from being in the fourth largest TV market in the country, the Phillies would be willing to part with Lee for a broken down 28 year old outfielder who can’t stay healthy for more than half of any season he’s ever played in and two 4 AAAA pitchers and some cash?
You know what, I’d do that deal TOMMOROW, but the Phillies would never do that. Are you kidding me? Maybe 2-3 years down the road theOries will have the pieces to pull off a trade for a big name pitcher, but Reimold, Bergesen, and Tillman and cash? They’d throw Duquette right out of the Philly offices if he offered up that trade.
