A response to “Are you ready for some futbol?”

“Z Man…Nice Try! Ol’ Bruz just got home a little bit ago from a “work party” only to find just three entries about the stunning US Result…I’ve said before that the fans in the Greater Baltimore Metro Area are pretty much horsebleep, and this string pretty much proves my point yet again…If it ain’t gift-wrapped in purple with a pretty bow on top, well, then it don’t much matter, huh?” – Posted by Ol’ Bruz

I love this comment. An obvious statement considering I am a huge soccer fan, but this needed to be said. Us soccer fans can’t make everyone like the game or appreciate it as much as we do.  Either you like it or you don’t, and most people who have never played soccer at a high level don’t appreciate the sport as much as those of us who have.  Soccer is loved worldwide and has hands-down the best fan support in the WORLD. I love American football too, but it’s something special when you see thousands of people united as one partying with smiles on their painted faces the entire game because they love their team so much. Granted, football has its crazy fans too, but soccer is a whole other ballgame.

The U.S. soccer team played one hell of a game yesterday.  They were impressive throughout and drew a 1-1 tie with one of the top teams in the world.  I know the goal by Clint Dempsey wasn’t the most beautiful thing to bless the television screen, but that’s part of the game. You keep shooting and keep pressuring around the goal and you’re going to punch one in eventually. The real key for the U.S. is to put away Algeria and Slovenia and advance out of the group. The U.S. plays very well as an underdog, which was the case against England. They will be the favorite against both Algeria and Slovenia, so hopefully they can keep their focus and beat the teams they should beat.

I keep re-reading Ol’ Bruz’s last line in his comment and I love it because it’s so true. Come out of your shell a little, Baltimore!!! There’s more to life than purple and black!
