Baltimore Orioles Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations, Dan Duquette, has been named Sporting News Executive of the Year for 2014.

Signing free-agent slugger Nelson Cruz to a team-friendly one-year deal before the season was among Duquette's most important moves. Cruz led the majors in homers with 40. And Baltimore's deadline trade for Red Sox reliever Andrew Miller strengthened an already solid bullpen.

Duquette, who was out of Major League Baseball from 2002-2011, has helped take the Orioles to the postseason twice in three seasons. Despite injuries (and a suspension) from All-Stars Matt Wieters, Manny Machado and Chris Davis, the O’s replaced their production with guys like Caleb Joseph, Delmon Young and Steve Pearce.

Now it’s time for Buck Showalter to pick up his third Manager of the Year honor.
