Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta was carted off of the practice field with a hip injury today after a collision with reserve safety James Ihedigbo. All indications are that Pitta fractured his hip and will need surgery to repair it.

Dennis PittaBeing that Anquan Boldin is now gone, Pitta’s injury is really going to hurt — no pun intended.

After Torrey Smith and now without Pitta, the Ravens are seriously lacking offensive weapons. Look for second tight end Ed Dickson to fill the void effectively; Dickson came on strong toward the end of last season and has always shown flashes of elite athleticism.

10-year veteran and Maryland native Visanthe Shiancoe has been spotted at practice, and now that Pitta is out, a deal for Shiancoe may be in sight. Shiancoe would be a viable option, especially for a Ravens team now desperate for weapons.
